Georgia, USA, chemical plant fire under investigation

On Monday 7 November, Symrise chemical plant in Georgia, USA, caught fire and suffered a series of explosions. Local law enforcement is working with the chemical plant to determine the cause of the fire.

More than 1 million gallons of water had to be depleted from tanks on site before tanker trucks arrived. One firefighter is currently suffering from exhaustion and is being treated in a local hospital.

The fire was caused by hydrogen peroxide pinene which is manufactured at the site.

The ongoing investigation will see specialist crews finalizing the monitoring of tanks, shutdown of valves and extinguishing spot fires on the site. They will then coat the area with a foam blanket to suppress fumes.
